Join Molly Warner to learn how a scientist at Utah's Division of Water Quality monitors the health of lakes and reservoirs throughout the state. Use water monitoring instruments to take temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen readings with different water samples, and learn about the water quality of your favorite Utah reservoir!

Evening for Educators: Building a Story Together at UMFA

There are many ways to build a story and integrate English Language Arts with Visual Arts in the classroom! Inspired by special exhibit Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt, from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation we’ll explore ideas of collaboration, writing, and visual stories. As we participate in workshops and an interactive tour, we’ll learn together to make a more dynamic story. K–12 educators only. In-person and remote options available.

Drawing: Foundations (Ages 12+)

Foundation Drawing is an important and easy first step into drawing. Understanding the simplest forms of expression using fun and easy techniques allows endless possibilities to explore and create no matter how far you decide to go. In this course we will go over basics such as types of drawing tools and materials (pencils, pens, color pencil), some familiar and some new. We will focus on learning how to really see what is in front of you. We will talk about and demonstrate simple and fun exercises meant to instill confidence as well as solidify very strong skills. Introduction to Art Materials and Techniques for Kids! (Ages 5-11)

Is your child curious about art? This playful, hands-on class introduces young artists to the basic elements of artistic creation and creativity! Students will explore line, shape, color, texture, space, and contrast through exciting projects using a variety of different mediums. Each month, kids dive into something new—first drawing, then painting, and finally sculpting fun 3D creations. This class is perfect for sparking imagination and building artistic confidence in young artists. All supplies are provided for this class. Charcoal: Beginning Explorations (Ages 12+)

Working in charcoal is like painting without paint and sculpting without clay. It is malleable, allowing the artist to push and pull the medium to create great depth and contrast.
