The 2024 Sundance Film Festival runs January 18 through 28 and celebrates independent storytelling both in person and online at the 40th edition of the Sundance Film Festival.

The Sundance Film Festival is the ultimate gathering of original storytellers and audiences seeking new voices and fresh perspectives. The annual program includes dramatic and documentary features, short films, and episodic content. There are also daily filmmaker conversations, panel discussions, and other events. Since 1985, hundreds of films launched at the Festival have gone on to gain critical acclaim and reach new audiences worldwide.

Nuns Vs. Patriarchy, Always Bet On Black...Habits

The Utah Film Center hosts a free live stream of "Rebel Hearts," which made its silver screen debut at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival just two months ago. The film takes everything you think you know about nuns and flips it on its head. The documentary goes behind the classrooms of the unapologetic nuns who taught at the Los Angeles-based Sisters of the Immaculate Heart during the height of the Vietnam War and Civil Rights movement.

CODA

From the opening scenes, CODA seemed to have a storyline we’ve all seen before. A shy, misunderstood teenager from a financially strapped family making her way through life, forced to walk past the whispers and the snickering of students in the hallways of her small-town high school. She is on her way to choir class where she must face her fears, become more visible and expose her hidden talent if she is to follow her dreams. Meanwhile, maybe she’ll get noticed by the boy she has a crush on… At this point of the film, I'm a quarter of the way through my popcorn and thinking, okay I know where this is going. But no sooner does that thought crosses my mind when the film takes a few turns and leaves any notion of a typical teen-angst movie far behind.
