Queer History Corner: Joe Redburn
Posted June 8th, 2026For Pride month, KRCL has collaborated with the Mildred Berryman Institute to bring you Utah Queer History each Monday and Thursday throughout June. These pieces dig into significant people and events from our state's queer history. In this piece, we learn about Joe Redburn, the father of queer organizing and community in Utah. He created the first gay bar in Salt Lake City, which would later, after many iterations, continue on as the Sun Trapp, which still has its doors open to the public today.
