  • Utah Documentary Association Fall Mixer, 7:00-10:00 p.m. at Mountain West Cider, 425 N. 400 W., SLC. "Join us for an evening of socializing and networking at Mountain West Cider. Enjoy the lively atmosphere and great company, and then take a short stroll to the Utah Film Center for an exclusive sneak peek of the new facility from 8:00-9:00 p.m. Los Tapia Kitchen food truck will be outside of Mountain West Cider for our event. We will also have snacks and drinks inside the Utah Film Center. This event is free, but we ask that you RSVP."

  • Rally and Cruise for the Redwood Drive-In and Swap Meet, 6:30 p.m. at Hillsdale Park, 3275 S. 320 W., West Valley City. Event by Brown Berets: "On September 6th, community members will gather for a rally and cruise to raise awareness and demand that the West Valley City Council vote NO to the proposed rezoning of the Redwood Drive-In Theater and Swap Meet. The City Council will vote on Tuesday, September 17th at 6:30PM at the West Valley City Hall."

  • EntheoMagus at the Utah Fungi Fest, 7:00 p.m. @ Second Summit Cider, 4010 S. Main St., Millcreek. Panel with filmmakers after the screening. Must be 21. "EntheoMagus is a groundbreaking documentary unearthing the role psychedelics played in the establishment of the Mormon religion. From laced sacramental wines to a peyote-peddling prophet, this revolutionary research rewrites the generally acknowledged history."

  • , 7:00-9:30 p.m. in the Grand Lobby at Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main St., SLC. Event by Eccles Theater and Salt Lake County Arts & Culture: "Powerful. Soul-stirring. Snap-worthy. Salt Lake Speaks is a FREE night of slam poetry from 10 local artists that you simply can’t miss. These local poets will leave you breathless as they speak their truths and celebrate the power of the spoken word."

Fri-Sun, Sept. 6-8: 

  • Utah Fungi Festival @ Clubhouse on South Temple, 850 E. South Temple St., SLC. "Utah's first mushroom festival is back! Join industry-leading educators, mental health practitioners, and activists to discuss the present and future of psychedelic medicines, plus a screening that explores their links to Utah's past. Kick-off Day 1 with a psychedelic medicine panel, film screening, and more. Day 2 is full of engaging lectures and workshops with top experts and activists.   • Utah Greek Fest @ Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 209 W. 300 S., SLC. "The Greek Orthodox Community would like to welcome you to this year's 48th Annual Salt Lake City Greek Festival. It's the 2nd largest cultural festival in Utah and the largest Greek Festival West of the Mississippi. Experience Hellenism and Orthodoxy as we showcase our delicious food, spectacular dancers, hospitality, and our Orthodox faith through beautifully guided tours of our amazing Cathedral and museum.     Event by SLAM: Salt Lake Academy of Music: "FREE first-ever, young artists music festival created specifically for emerging original music artists of all genres, ages 20 and younger at Pioneer Park staged on the soccer field during the Downtown Farmer's Marke. FESTIVAL LINEUP: 30 Utah original music artists—bands, rappers, singer-songwriters, and others—applied in 2024, and the following six original music artists ages 20 and younger will be performing 30-minute sets and be paid $500 per performance."

Did you know that Drag has existed in Utah since 1871? As a precursor to our Tell the Story Black History Conference on Saturday, September 14, we'll explore its influence on and connection to the Black American Community. Thursday, September 12: 

  • Save Kane Creek Benefit Concert, 6:00-10:00 p.m. at Fisher Brewing Co., 320 W. 800 S., SLC. Event by kanecreek_development_watch: "Three amazing bands have volunteered their time and talents to bring us all together for an unforgettable evening — @trashmooncollective@jrad_cooley_band @queenstreet.band (they all love this area just as much as we do!). The cover is sliding scale, and we will be featuring a huge lineup of art and local goods/services for a silent auction, a raffle, and guest speakers. Our goal is to make enough money to cover our upcoming fight to take away KCPD’s bad water rights they are trying to use to push this horrendous development through. Our case is strong and we are excited to make it happen."

Friday, September 13:

  • Paula Fuga, 7:00 p.m. at Kingsbury Hall, 1395 E. Presidents Circle, SLC. "A poet at heart and an accomplished ukulele player, Paula Fuga has intertwined her passions into award-winning songwriting. Since the release of her EP Misery’s End, which featured guest appearances by Ziggy Marley and Jack Johnson, she has headlined the global music circuit and performed on the stages of Madison Square Garden and the Sydney Opera House, and is a three-time guest artist at The White House."

  • Ancestral Remembrance Celebration & Recognition Dinner: Community & Neighborhood, 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mid-Valerforming Arts Center, 2525 Taylorsville Rd., Taylorsville. Event by Sema Hadithi African American Heritage and Culture Foundation: "Each year the evening prior to our Tell the Story Black History Conference, we hold our Ancestral Remembrance Celebration & Recognition Dinner. This year our theme is COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORHOOD. At this event, we teach Black American culture, because this culture has gone overlooked and many people think that Black Americans do not have a culture. WHO are Black Americans? We are called "Black Americans" and "African Americans". We are the descendants of those who were brought to the U.S. to be enslaved and who stayed and created a culture and community that they passed down to us and that today we still enjoy.   • Tell the Story Black History Conference: Community & Neighborhood, 10-a-4p at Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center, 2525 Taylorsville Rd., Taylorsville. Event by Sema Hadithi African American Heritage and Culture Foundation: "For our 9th Annual Tell the Story Black History Conference, our theme is COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORHOOD in which we will explore community and neighborhood through the lens of Utah's Black history. How did Black Americans achieve community within a mostly White American state during the 1930s and 1940s? What were Black American neighborhoods like and what constituted them? Last year we changed from our "break-out session" style to a "single room presentation" style in which all attendees remained together for each of the five presentations. Each topic will be presented with time for attendees to ask questions and for there to be a discussion."

  • 10th Annual K.A.V.A. Talks Heels 2 Heal Walk for Domestic Violence Awareness, 12:00-2:00 p.m. at International Peace Gardens, 1060 S. Dalton Ave. (west of 900 West). "Each year on the last Saturday of the month we invite men of all ages and backgrounds to participate in K.A.V.A. Talks Annual Heels 2 Heal 1 Mile Walk in high heels to raise awareness and funds for victims and survivors of Domestic Violence. This year will be our 10th hosting this community event."
