Sundance Film Festival Kick-Off with the Radioactive team, feat. an interview with the filmmakers behind one of this year's World Cinema docs, 'Cutting Through Rocks.' Plus, Utah Political Watch, Vietnamese American Community of Utah, 801 Salon and GothSloth.

Bryan Schott, managing editor of Utah Political Watch, with a legislative update on Day 3 of the Utah Legislature's General Session. Yesterday, Schott filed a federal lawsuit against Utah legislative officials who denied him an application for press credentials.

Helena Vu and Jada Stelmach of the Vietnamese American Community of Utah (VACU) share the significance of the 2025 Lunar New Year and ways you can celebrate the Year of the Snake.

Join us for a day filled with traditional Vietnamese food, cultural performances, lion dances, lucky money, and fun activities for all ages. Roxanne Gay of 801 Salon and Taylar B. Jackson, aka Gothsloth, preview their exhibit opening at Misery & Co. Tattoo, 561 W. 200 S., SLC, this weekend. Following an opening reception Saturday from 7:00-10:00 p.m., the work can be viewed Wednesday- Saturday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. (Jan 29-Feb 1 and Feb 5-8) at Misery & Co.

  • "Taylar B. Jackson (she/they), known as Gothsloth, is a community-taught contemporary artist based in Salt Lake City, Utah, who has intentionally immersed themselves in a network of creators to refine their techniques and tools. Their expressive work, marked by gestural strokes and emotional depth, explores themes of empowerment, identity, and community. A resident artist at Guthrie Artist Studios since 2017, Gothsloth transitioned to full-time art in 2020, working across mediums like painting, murals, and screen printing. Their art reflects resilience and the transformative power of collaboration, fostering connections locally and internationally."

"Today the nonprofit Sundance Institute announced the 87 feature films and six episodic projects selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, revealing a lineup full of bold independent storytelling. All of the competition films and more will be available online from January 30–February 2, for audiences across the country. Single Film Tickets for in-person and online screenings go on sale January 16 at 10 a.m. MT. Members have access to a Single Film Ticket pre-sale, and limited quantities of passes and packages remain on sale. Filmmakers Sara Khaki & Mohammadreza Eyni of Cutting Through Rocks, sit down with Radioactive's Valene MC to share about the first elected councilwoman of her Iranian village, Sara Shahverdi. As she aims to break long-held patriarchal traditions by training teenage girls to ride motorcycles and stopping child marriages. When accusations arise questioning Sara’s intentions to empower the girls, her identity is put in turmoil.
