Rallies and rights with Avery Singleton and Jazmine Duma, two organizers behind a rally at the Utah State Capitol this weekend.

  • Feb. 8: Unite for Our Rights, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Utah State Capitol, 350 N. State St., SLC. Event by Utah March: "We are ready to have our voices heard and fight for our rights and what we know is right. Our first PEACEFUL protest will be held today. Join us to help bring justice for EVERYONE."

SLCC is celebrating Black History Month with several events. RadioACTive gets a preview with Shari-Fa Harrigan and Milasse Doho of the Black Student Union at Salt Lake Community College.

  • Feb. 12: African American Read-In & Black Student Union Annual Poetry Slam, 12:00-2:00 p.m. at SLCC’s Taylorsville Redwood Campus (4600 So. Redwood Rd.), Student Center, Oak Room. Parking: Visitor parking is located in front of the Student Center. Hosted by SLCC’s Black Student Union and Student Writing and Reading Center, the event showcases Black culture through Black literature. The Poetry Slam welcomes volunteers to read written works and traditional poetry written by black artists. To contribute, interested participants should fill out this form.

  • Feb. 20: Black Businesses Pop-Up Shops, 12:00-4:00 at SLCC’s Taylorsville Redwood Campus (4600 So. Redwood Rd.), Student Center in the Student Event Center (located across from the Thayne Center). Parking: Visitor parking is located in front of the Student Center. Come shop and support Black entrepreneurs, who will be selling a variety of items ranging from jewelry, and clothing to artisan items. There will also be food vendors.

  • Feb. 5: Black, Bold & Brilliant presents The Body Politic, 7:00 p.m. at the downtown City Library, 210 E. 400 S., SLC. Event by Utah Film Center and BBB series: "*UTAH PREMIERE* Brandon Scott is a young mayor who grew up during Baltimore’s most troubling years and sets out, with unyielding idealism, to change the course of his battered and beloved city."

Connor Estes talks with Reid Davenport, director of the Sundance doc Life After, which was the winner of the US Documentary Special Jury Award. The film is about disabled people's rights to control their own lives and deaths. PBS Independent Lens will broadcast the film later this year.

  • "In 1983, a disabled Californian woman named Elizabeth Bouvia sought the 'right to die,' igniting a national debate about autonomy, dignity, and the value of disabled lives. After years of courtroom trials, Bouvia disappeared from public view. Disabled director Reid Davenport narrates this investigation of what happened to Bouvia."

World Cancer Day is today. RadioACTive talks with  Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont MFA, PhD. of Know Your Lemons. She has created an award-winning campaign, breast health app and classes specifically designed to improve early detection through creative education, available in multiple languages.
