Friday, March 13: Punk Rock Farmer is on the road for Radiothon Eve! Join us for a live broadcast at 801 Coffee Roasters, 550 N 300 W, SLC, with live music from Murphy and the Giant, a wild bunch of irreverent misfits who blend the chaos of punk rock with the unruly spirit of Irish music. Aldine, Lara and the team will bring more true tales of the agrihood, new Punk Rock Farmer T-shirts, and - since the St. Patrick's Parade is tomorrow morning - the Hibernian Society of Utah and Parade Grand Marshal Dave Leo of the Ulster Project. Tonight's homegrown music: Murphy & The Giant

Hailing from the back streets of Salt Lake City, Utah, Murphy and the Giant is a wild bunch of irreverent misfits who blend the chaos of punk rock with the unruly spirit of Irish music. And they've got a busy schedule between now and St Patrick's Day.

  • TODAY: Looks like SLC may be home to an ICE facility, given news reports of the federal government buying a warehouse here. Brianna Puga of Comunidades Unidas joins us to share more details about CU's Barrio Defense Committee, part of the nonprofit's Salt Lake County Immigrant People’s Agenda.

  • Mar 14: St. Patrick's Day Parade and Siamsa| 11a-5p @ The Gateway, 18 N Rio Grande St, SLC. This year's theme: Celtic Odyssey. Jameson Mohammadi of the Hibernian Society and Parade Marshal Dave Leto of The Ulster Project share more about the good craic planned this month. 🍀 Sláinte 🍀

    • PARADE/SIAMSA DETAILS: The parade route will begin at 11 AM at 200 South and 600 West, traveling east to Rio Grande and through The Gateway. Following the parade, the Siamsa Celtic Celebration takes place in the Olympic Plaza, where you will find traditional Irish food, plus a variety of other food options. Local Irish Dance Companies will perform—more than 25 vendor booths featuring many local artisans, food options, and beverages. Gateway merchants will be open, serving up Irish specials. Come celebrate the largest Irish party in Salt Lake City!

  • April 15: Deadline to sign up for the Utah Pollinator Habitat Program. If you are planning any projects to increase pollinator habitat for watersheds or other habitat corridors, take a look at program information and incentives on UDAF's website.

  • May 9: Wasatch Community Gardens' Spring Plant Sale | 8a-1P @ Utah State Fairpark, 155 N 1000 W, SLC.

Aldine's Urban Farm Report: Community Gardening

Wasatch Community Gardens supports 650 gardeners at 19 gardens in coordination with partners, including municipalities and organizations, providing land access in parks and other public spaces. Aldine and Lara visit with WCG's Rio Wimmer on how to join or organize a community garden in your neighborhood. Plus, Summer Camps, Workshops/Webinars, volunteer opportunities, and more. Time to get digging in the dirt!

"With so many plant sales each spring, what makes ours different is simple: every plant supports our mission to empower people to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food. The sale features 45,000+ organically grown plants, all started from seed and raised by participants in our farm-based Job Training Program at City Farm. You’ll find vegetables, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, edible perennials, flowers, native plants, regionally adapted seeds, seed potatoes, alliums, compost, and more. SNAP/EBT is accepted for all food-growing plants."
