Earlier today, The Market Gardener Workshop with JM Fortier took place at Gracie's Farm in Wanship. Aldine is there and will call in with Fortier during the show.
Jean-Martin (JM) Fortier is a farmer, an educator, and an eco-entrepreneur. For more than two decades, he has been a leading figure in the organic farming movement. As the author of the groundbreaking book "The Market Gardener," which has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide, JM has reshaped the small-scale agricultural landscape by inspiring readers to reimagine ecological, human-scale food systems. Check out The Market Gardener Institute, as well as Growers & Co., which develops functional workwear and tools for people who love growing food, being outdoors and connecting their hands to the earth.
Al and Lara spoke with first-generation farmer Nicole Toebes in Canada. Lara spotted her AgPro Workwear brand of overalls, "designed by women in ag, for women in ag," on TikTok and was curious about Toebes' farming side hustle.
Meet the women behind the brand: "AgPro was built by women who don’t just understand the work—we live it. We’ve worn the gear that didn’t fit. We’ve rolled up the cuffs, cinched in the waists, and made do with workwear that was never really made for us. But we knew we deserved better—so we made it. Behind every product is a team of women who believe in showing up, working hard, and building something that matters."
