Hear from the Central Wasatch Commission, Stop the Polluting Ports Coalition, Stewardship Utah, and Circuit Breakers. Plus, a couple of songs for the season with Utah's own Kate MacLeod.

Clayton Walker of Rio Tinto on traveling to D.C. for the unveiling of the statue of Dr. Martha Hughes Cannon in Statuary Hall. The statue, which was commissioned in 2018 and completed in 2020, is constructed of 550 pounds of Kennecott copper forged into bronze and was designed by Utah artist Ben Hammond.

Nat Williams of Stewardship Utah. As the nonprofit's Democracy Policy Associate, Williams is keeping an eye on lawmakers' expected election reforms in the 2025 General Session of the Utah Legislature (starts Jan. 21).

Deeda Seed of the Center for Biological Diversity, part of the Stop the Polluting Port coalition of organizations and community members calling for a halt to Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) development in Great Salt Lake wetlands. Earlier this week, the coalition released a 2024 Wetlands Report showing the increased impact of Utah Inland Port Development on these areas.

Lindsey Nielsen, Executive Director, and Mia McNeil, Community Engagement Coordinator, for the Central Wasatch Commission, which will host its inaugural CWC Symposium next month. The 2-day conference will spotlight the four interdependent systems of economy, environment, recreation, and transportation in the Central Wasatch. Terry Tempest Williams will give the keynote address.

  • Jan. 9-10: Central Wasatch Symposium at Millcreek City Hall, 1330 E. Chambers Ave, Millcreek. "The Central Wasatch Commission is hosting its first annual Central Wasatch Symposium, a conference event that will bring together various interests and stakeholders in the Central Wasatch for two days of expert panels, interactive workshops, and networking focused on the stewardship of the Central Wasatch Mountains.   • Dec. 29: Sing Your Hear Out with Kate MacLeod, 7:00 p.m. online sing-in. Live-streaming music, sing along, watch and listen online according to your time zone. Join Kate for an hour of winter music, streaming at FACEBOOK, and YOUTUBE. Donations accepted through Venmo and PayPal, 50% of funds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. 

  • Jan. 3: IAMA Local Concert Series, 7:00 p.m. at South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society, 6976 S. Highland Dr., SLC. Event by the  Intermountain Acoustic Music Organization: Kate MacLeod with Dylan Schorer and Mark Hazel perform for the IAMA's Local Concert Series.
