  • Oct. 26: Apocolympic Opening Ceremony, 1:00 p.m. at University of Utah Olympic Cauldron Park, 451 S. 1400 E., SLC. "As Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz announces a 'pause' on water-related legislation, Utah youth will stage a mock Olympic opening ceremony and banner drop, urging state leaders to protect and restore the Great Salt Lake by 2034 or face catastrophic consequences. Even as the drying Great Salt Lake threatens ecological, economic, and public health crises across Utah, state leaders are plowing forward with plans to host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games and refusing to consider legislation that could prevent environmental catastrophe. Utah youth will gather to stage a mock Olympic opening ceremony to demonstrate the consequences of inaction, including a 2034 Olympics plagued by haze, toxic dust events, inadequate snowpack, devastated communities, and a dry Great Salt Lake."

#ManyCulturesOneSky with SkyWatcher Leo T, a RadioACTive volunteer and veteran broadcaster-turned-podcaster who shares his love of the night sky, cultural tales of the constellations, and more on #PunkRockFarmerFridays. Tonight: Night sky chart, a supermassive black hole, and poet Joel Long.

Margo Plumb and their UQFF short Trans Punk, which screens in the Utah Queer Film Showcase at this weekend's Utah Queer Film Festival.

  • Oct. 26: Utah Queer Short Film Showcase, 10:30 a.m. at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, SLC. "Utah proud and Utah loud. These short films by local filmmakers highlight the rapidly increasing queer community in our state. Put a little jive in your beehive and celebrate stories from your world. Presented by the Artist Foundry‘s Utah Filmmaker Showcase program. Featuring a post-film Q&A moderated by Artist Foundry Manager, Amanda Madden, with the shorts collection’s filmmakers Fletcher Gibbons, Ash Anderson, Andy Whipple, Margo Plumb, Sally Shaum, and Kelton Wells."

RadioACTive talks with Utah-based actor Peter Jacobson, whose latest role finds him playing a man of mystery in the jump-scare horror film SMILE 2, now in theaters. He stars opposite Naomi Scott and Drew Barrymore as ‘Morris,’ a character deeply impacted by the mysterious terror who tries to help ‘Skye Riley’ (Scott) escape it.

Brendan Lamoreaux of Utah Disaster Kleenup, which has been the main sponsor of the Utah Firefighter Chili Cookoff since it started 12 years ago.

  • Oct. 26: 12th Annual Utah Firefighter Chili Cookoff, 11a-3p at America First Field, 9256 S. State St., Sandy. Over 20 teams of first responders.
