LISTEN Friday at 6:10 to Hear Queer History Corner: Joe Redburn

For Pride month, KRCL has collaborated with the Mildred Berryman Institute to bring you Utah Queer History each Monday and Thursday throughout June. These pieces dig into significant people and events from our state's queer history. Tonight, we learn about Joe Redburn, the father of queer organizing and community. He created the first gay bar in Salt Lake City, which would later, after many iterations, continue on as the Sun Trapp, which still has its doors open to the public.

RadioACTive Workshop: Reflections on Men’s Health Month and Father’s Day

The challenges that humanity faces today — including xenophobia, climate change, war, and pandemic — arguably demand a change in human consciousness. Each June, we celebrate both Men’s Health Month and Father’s Day. In this edition of DialogueDocs with David Parker and Davis Derezotes, we will examine the "response-abilities" men have to change our own consciousness and contribute to developing the inclusive local and global communities we need today for our own well-being and survival.

To help us in that exploration, we have invited two men and leaders in our community to join us: Dr. Dean McGovern and Veon Smith, LCSW, who have both worked for decades to help promote such a change in consciousness.

  • DialogueDocs wants to hear how you take care of your mental health, what stories about masculinity have meant and changed over your lifetime, and your hopes and fears, given how you feel about the world today. DM them on IG: @dialoguedocs.
