Tomorrow is the first day of May, which is recognized as International Labor Day (yes, we know about Beltane and the Celts). The modern labor movement celebrates unions and their fight for an 8-hour workday on May Day. Utah50501's Jess returns to talk about a celebration planned in downtown SLC. Note: It's not a protest.
May 1: May Day Rally for Labor Rights, Economic Equality & Solidarity. 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Washington Square, 451 S. State St., SLC. Event by Utah50501: "May 1st is the next national day of protest. This will be a different type of event - it’s a celebration. We’ll be at Washington Square at the Salt Lake County Building 12-2. This day is significant because it’s May Day - International Labor Day. We’re coming to show support to union members all over the nation. Bring signs to show support or just come listen to some local union members who are sharing their experiences and knowledge. Unions fought for the rights we all benefit from. They raise their voices for us, let’s raise ours for them. Join us. Stand with labor. Raise your voice. Celebrate them."
The Utah Investigative Journalism Project has released its 2025 Utah Reporters Almanac. RadioACTive talks with Eric Peterson, founder and executive director of the nonprofit, about the state of the Free Press in an America where the GOP has a supermajority in Utah and Washington, D.C.
