Feb. 23-27: Utahns Against Hunger and Create Better Health Utah challenge Utahnsto take the $6-a-Day SNAP Challenge. UAH Executive Director Gina Cornia explains the challenge.
Spend no more than $6 a day on groceries per person. That means that the maximum you should spend on groceries for the entire challenge is $30 per person.
Only use food purchased with the allocated $6 to prepare your meals. If you choose to use food that you have previously purchased, we encourage you to factor the cost of the item into your total for groceries.
Try to avoid accepting free food from work, events, or gatherings to have a more authentic experience of living on SNAP.
You may only purchase items that are eligible for SNAP with the allocated $6 a day. This means that alcoholic beverages, sodas, hot/prepared foods, or non-food items should be purchased separate to the challenge. We encourage you to avoid purchasing these items as much as possible
Lianna Manibog, founder of The Threadwork Collective, returns to continue our collaboration on people power and community-led change.
