Dr. Jane Goodall will soon turn 90. The Natural History Museum of Utah is asking Utah Students: what impact do you want to make before you turn 90? It's an essay contest, says the museum's Margaret Chamberlain, open to all of Utah's 6th–8th graders. Cash and prizes are on the line, and the winner will get to meet Jane Goodall during a trip to Seattle later this month. 

  • March 11: Deadline for Inspired by Jane: Youth Essays on Shaping a Better World, 9:00 a.m. MDT on Monday, March 11, 2024. "In celebration of Dr. Jane Goodall's upcoming 90th birthday, the Natural History Museum of Utah is partnering with the Jane Goodall Institute and my529 Utah's Educational Savings Plan to host an essay contest to inspire a new generation of visionaries. This contest is open to Utah students currently attending 6th, 7th, or 8th grade-level education at a public school, charter school, private school, or home school. One first-place winner will receive a trip to Seattle, Washington, to meet Dr. Jane Goodall, and a my529 college savings certificate for $1,000!   • May 27: Last day of Becoming Jane: The Evolution of Dr. Jane Goodall at the Natural History Museum of Utah, 301 Wakara Way, SLC. "In this hands-on, transportive multimedia exhibition celebrating her extraordinary life and work, visitors will explore Dr. Jane Goodall’s early years through iconic images and a multiscreen experience and venture on an immersive projection of Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park where she did her famous behavioral research on chimps. Visitors will also see a life-size hologram of Dr. Goodall, enter a replica of her research tent, and learn about her current role as a leader in community-centered conservation and youth empowerment. Finally, visitors will find out what they can do today to make a positive impact in the world." For tickets, click here

Stan Clawson of Art Access, a nonprofit that increases accessibility in the arts through opportunities for artists with disabilities and education for community and cultural organizations.

  • March 15: Opening Reception for "We're just doing this" - Joseph Adams & Brian Kershisnik 30th Anniversary Exhibition, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Art Access, at 230 S. 500 W., #110, SLC. "Join Art Access for the celebration of 30 years of collaborative creation between Utah artists Joseph Adams and Brian Kershisnik! Join us the next day (Saturday, March 16th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.) for a workshop demonstration with Joseph and Brian. Both artists will talk about their collaboration and demonstrate their artistic process. Both events are free to the public. Masks are strongly encouraged. Following the reception and workshop, the exhibition will be open to the public during Art Access business hours: Tuesdays 1-6 pm, Wednesdays 9-2 pm, Thursdays 1-6pm. The exhibition will run from March 15 to April 19, 2024."

  • LISTEN: Loud & Clear, Saturdays from 9:00-10:00 p.m. It's Utah’s only weekly, youth-produced radio show. Each week students play the music they want and discuss issues important to them.   • JOIN: Loud & Clear Youth Radio is an intensive year-long program open and free to youth ages 15 to 19. Registration for prospective students typically opens in the summer. Interested students will participate in an interview process before acceptance into the program. Class typically begins in September of each year. For more info about joining the class, click here
