Nursing scientist Lisa Taylor-Swanson on advances in menopause care, including culturally competent health care providers in IRL and online. She's helped increase access for women to medical care, education, and self-care education during peri- and post-menopause. In addition, she's working on three local pilots:

  • MENOGAP – delivered by a prescribing provider (MD, ARNP, PA) and a group acupuncturist. Medical care, health education, integrative health education for self-care, and acupuncture – all delivered in a group format. Social support – both from providers and other women. Offered at Sugar House Health Center. Developed in close collaboration with an ethnically and racially diverse Community Advisory Board. Meets Monday nights at U Health Sugar House, 1280 E Stringham Ave. If interested, email menogap-sg@umail.utah.edu.

  • Waning Moon – designed by and with American Indian/Alaska Native women in collaboration with Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake. Health education, integrative health education for self-care, referrals to healthcare providers. Delivered by a nurse at UICSL.

  • Mujeres en la Transición – designed by and with Hispanic and Latina women. Health education, integrative health education for self-care, referrals to healthcare providers. Delivered by a Community Health Worker.
