ACLU of Utah's Aaron Welcher and Allison Griffith and Mitski Avalōx of Southern Utah Drag Stars on the recent settlement and apology from St. George.

  • The case, Southern Utah Drag Stars v. the City of St. George, was filed in May of 2023 after the City of St. George denied Drag Stars a special event permit for a family-friendly drag show. The city’s refusal to grant Drag Stars a permit is part of a years-long effort to target drag performances and LGBTQ+ pride events in violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments, as well as the Utah Constitution.

  • Under the 2025 settlement agreement, the City of St. George admitted that their denial of Drag Stars’ special event application violated Drag Stars’ First Amendment rights and agreed to publicly apologize to Drag Stars for this violation.

  • ACLU of Utah Call to Action: "Urgent: Stop the Ban on Vote-By-Mail in Utah. Utah's vote-by-mail system is secure, convenient, and overwhelmingly popular—but extremist politicians want to ban it. HB300 is a direct attack on your right to vote. It would end vote-by-mail in Utah by making it illegal to return ballots through the mail, forcing voters to drop off their ballots in person and show ID. This unnecessary burden will disenfranchise thousands of Utahns.

🔴 This is a blatant attempt to make voting harder.
🔴 There is NO evidence of fraud in Utah's vote-by-mail system.
🔴 96% of Utah voters rely on vote-by-mail—HB300 takes that away.

"Protecting your rights means you can't let politicians destroy a system Utahns trust and depend on."

Legislative update with Desiree Hennessy of Utah Patients Coalition, a leading advocate for plant medicine.
