Redistricting coming to a head! Better Boundaries wants you ready to weigh in during public input on the final maps. Common Cause has advice on what to watch for. Dr. Claudia Fruin, pediatrician and founder of the Utah Lead Coalition, on a push to test every Utah child for lead poisoning.

Dr. Claudia Fruin, pediatrician and founder of the Utah Lead Coalition. The nonprofit is committed to developing resources and policy to eliminate new cases of childhood lead poisoning through a combination of community advocacy and education on the importance of early detection and prevention.

  • Oct. 24-30: National Lead Poisoning Prevention WeekEach year, National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) is a call to bring together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, tribal, and local governments to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness in an effort to reduce childhood exposure to lead. NLPPW highlights the many ways parents can reduce children's exposure to lead in their environment and prevent its serious health effects. The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and our partners work to heighten awareness of lead poisoning, provide resources, and encourage preventive actions during NLPPW and beyond.

  • Salt Lake County Lead Safe Housing ProgramSalt Lake County administers grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to qualifying homeowners, renters, and landlords to make homes lead-safe for children.  All services are free.   • Oct. 27: Four Years in the Making: The Status of Redistricting, 12:00 p.m. online. Event by Better Boundaries: "Please join Better Boundaries' Executive Director, Katie Wright, in a conversation with Kathay Feng, the National Director of Redistricting at Common Cause for a look at the crucial last days of redistricting here in Utah and across the country. Kathay has ensured that the most valuable resource of democracy, the People, are represented fully and fairly. She provided crucial leadership in passing initiatives that established an independent redistricting commission to ensure representative democracy in California. Your ticket purchase of $25 supports our local, grassroots efforts to ensure that the voices of all Utahns are heard in the political process."
