RadioACTive launches a month of Music Meets Activism. Tonight, Bill Tibbitts and the work of Crossroads Urban Center. Tune in as we talk about the work of a nonprofit that runs one of the busiest Emergency Food Pantries in Utah as well as a charitable Thrift Store, and has organized Utahns in advocacy groups to make broader change. Plus, Bill's personal playlist!

We started a new month-long series called Music Meets Activism to talk to grassroots activists, community builders, punk rock farmers and DIY creatives about what and why they do what they do, and serve up their own playlist to match. Who would you like to hear from? Send an email to radioactive@krcl.org that includes their name, contact info and the reason why you think they should join us for MMA. Bonus points if you send a voice memo we can share on the air, too!

Tonight on RadioACTive's Music Meets Activism series: Bill Tibbitts and the work of Crossroads Urban Center. For over 50 years, Crossroads Urban Center has run one of t​he busiest Emergency Food Pantries in Utah as well as a charitable Thrift Store, and has organized Utahns in advocacy groups to make broader change.

  • Aug. 10: CORC webinar on adding affordable housing to backyards and faith community-owned properties, 1:00 p.m. online. Event by Coalition of Religious Communities (CORC): "Have you heard about Accessory Dwelling Units? Have you heard about the 'Yes in God's Backyard' Movement? We will be discussing how other parts of the country are finding ways to make it more affordable to produce these low-cost homes with a specific emphasis on producing affordable places for low-income people to live. We also will be discussing the possibility of adding these kinds of homes to properties owned by churches and other faith communities and the growing nationwide movement to use church property in this kind of way."   • Aug. 27: 2022 Poverty Summit, 9a-1p at Christ United Methodist Church, CUMC Salt Lake, 2375 E. 3300 S., SLC. Event by Crossroads Urban Center: "Come learn about the causes of hunger and homelessness in Utah and policy solutions that will reduce those problems and join a community of caring and friendly people. Hosted by Crossroads Urban Center, the Coalition of Religious Communities and Powerful Moms Who Care."

  • Volunteer with Crossroads Urban Center: Individuals and groups are welcome to volunteer with Crossroads, from donating time at the food pantry and thrift store to hosting a company-wide food drive or collecting and assembilng hygiene kits. For details and to get involved, click here
