Celebrating Juneteenth in the Beehive State, featuring a Roundtable Tuesday panel discussion with the NAACP Salt Lake Branch and Sema Hadithi African American Heritage and Culture Foundation. Plus, More Than a Flag (on National Flag Day) and Summer of Civics with Utah Civic Learning Collaborative.

Led by Volunteer Host Risshan Leak, tonight's show featured the following people, organizations and/or events:

Summer of Civics with Robert Austin of the Utah Civic Learning Collaborative, an informal alliance of educators, nonprofits, policymakers and academic partners dedicated to preparing youth for civic life. Austin also serves as Humanities Team Coordinator and Secondary Social Studies Specialist with the Utah State Board of Education.

  • June 30: Deadline for Local Innovations Civics Education Grant Opportunity. The Utah State Board of Education is pleased to announce the availability of grant funds to promote civic teaching and learning provided by Utah legislative action, HB 273. The purpose of this three-year grant program is to support evidence-informed local innovations in civics teaching and learning, including constitutional literacy initiatives; media literacy or digital citizenship initiatives; and academic service learning initiatives that are grounded in an understanding of constitutional concepts and how the policymaking process works at different levels of government. Learn more and apply HERE.

Today is Flag Day. RadioACTive got an update on the campaign for a new state flag from David Wicai, project manager for More Than a Flag. Expect official designs by August! Follow the project's timeline at flag.utah.gov.
