Tonight's homegrown music: Charlie Apple

Based in Butte, MT, Charlie Apple’s sound fuses the rhythm and narratives of outlaw country with the underbelly of deep house music. Apple's baritone vocals call back to the dark cowboy, with vocal influences such as Lee Hazelwood and Johnny Cash. Apple’s storytelling and production creates a nouveau dance country he calls “Outlaw House.”

Goings On About O-Town

The Ogdenite was founded by local writer and journalist Deann Armes in 2019 to fill a void in Ogden-based arts and culture coverage. You can stay in touch by subscribing to The Ogdenite newsletter. Remember, Ogden is just a short Frontrunner ride away, folks. This weekend's highlights include:

  • Sept. 27: Spirit of the Monks Fall Festival | 10-9 PM @ Historic Monastery Farm, 1250 S 9500 E, Huntsville. Event by McFarland Family Farm: The best farmer-grown pumpkin patch in Utah. Horse-drawn wagon rides, antique tractor parade and antique engine and display, local vendors, food trucks, and the highlight you don't want to miss — our 2nd Annual Halloween Candy Airplane Drop.

  • Sept. 28: Wasatch Yoga Fest | 10-7 PM @ The Monarch, 455 25th Street. $50

Fall Fest @ Roots Farm

Roots Charter High School Principal Tyler Bastian and student GG with an invite to the school's fall festival. Utah's first farm-based charter high school was launched in 2015 to authenticate all the learning that takes place at the school through the farm as a laboratory.

  • Oct. 9: Roots Charter High Fall Fest | 4-7 PM @ 1301 Cesar Chavez Dr, WVC. Enjoy student vendors, food, pumpkins, a farm stand, a petting zoo, and bouncy houses.

Aldine's Urban Farm Report: Farm-to-Table, MesoAmerican-style

  • Chef Jean Mendieta of Proyecto & Cocina Xilonen shares his work growing the Three Sisters for his Meso-American, pre-colonial dishes. Hungry? Cocina Xilonen dinner pop-ups are Wednesday-Friday at Pic Nic Cafe, 1329 S 500 E, SLC. Look for brunch Sunday, Oct. 5.
