The News is Bad, But We Shall Overcome

The news is bad, but KRCL has weathered many storms before. Remember, the first song ever played on KRCL was Pete Seeger’s We Shall Overcome.

Congress approved legislation to rescind $1 billion in already approved funding previously designated for public media. KRCL is one of the many radio stations that will be heavily affected by this vote, alongside many other communities across the country that rely on federal funding to provide emergency alerts, news updates, and music streaming rights.

KRCL is poised to lose about $140,000, or ~10% of our funding for each of the next two years, because of these changes. It will affect our ability to bring you the consistent stream of music and local information you expect from 90.9FM. Luckily, KRCL is listener supported.

For 45 years KRCL has thrived because of people like you, who know the importance of reliable, independent media. We need to come together to uphold the ideals that are the foundation of KRCL.

Make a donation now to ensure KRCL’s future. Your support will help provide a cushion that can soften the blow to come. If you’re already a sustainer, consider increasing your monthly donation. If you are interested in committing a larger gift toward our 2026 Fiscal Year, please reach out so we can include your pledge in our budget planning.

With your support, KRCL has been able to do great things. We have just launched an exciting partnership with our partners in the Rocky Mountain Community Radio coalition to broaden our engineering capacity thanks to a major grant from Press Forward. We refurbished and upgraded our live band room at the station. And we have KRCL’s Day in the Park coming up on August 23.

Let’s focus on the good in the world and gather together around the speakers and in person to celebrate the diverse community we’ve built.

We are Listeners Community Radio of Utah KRCL and we shall overcome.
