Reframing the Conversation: Expanding the Portrayal of Black Men  

On this week’s Changing The Narrative:

The Office for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion - University of Utah kicked off  Reframing the Conversation The first of its new panel series, bringing together experts from across campus and the community to spark important conversations around racism, othering, and safety. The conversation recorded on February 24th, coincided with Black History Month, “Expanding the Portrayal of Black Men” explored how these topics surround those who identify as black men and specifically spoke to the effects, trends, and future of Black representation in various outlets. The Panel included:

  • Moderator, Chris Linder Special Assistant to the president for Violence Prevention and Education, assistant Professor of Higher education and Dean of graduate Studies, Department of Educational Leadership and Policy.

And panelists:

  • Sarah Projansky, Associate Vice President for Faculty, Office for Faculty
  • Marlon Lynch, Chief Safety Officer, University of Utah
  • Byron Russell, Utah Multicultural Commission Co-Chair, Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs; Principal Managing Partner, Byron Russell LLC
  • Liz Adeola, Producer/Host, PBS Utah
  • And we start with Meligha Garfield, Director of the , Black Cultural Center at the UofU
