PANDOS, LoveUtGiveUt, Such Charming Exiles, Dance-Spoken Word-Social Justice Mashup
Hosted by Billy Palmer and Sonni Harris (host of KRCL's Sonic Buffet Saturdays from 5-7 a.m.), tonight's RadioACTive show featured the following #OpenMicActivists:
- Dr. Marilyn Mehr, author of “Such Charming Exiles-How 2 Gay Women Learned to Live Openly and Love Fiercely.” Dr. Mehr will be speaking at the South Valley Unitarian Universality Church in Cottonwood Heights at 10:30 a.m. April 2, and at Encircle GLBT Resource Center at 7 p.m. that evening on the subject of "Bringing them Home: Facing the Crisis of Teen Suicide in LGBTQ Kids in Utah."
- Jessie Mandle, Voices for Utah Children, on a Q&A session about the proposed Affordable Care Act replacement bill's devastating effects on Medicaid.
- Alex Eaton of the Community Foundation of Utah's on the group's annual Love Utah Give Utah program
- Miriam Padilla and James Hernandez of PANDOS on upcoming events, including a Discussion on Cultural Appropriation (3/27) and Folklore in Honor of Water (4/21)
Then, Billy and Sonni talk with Utah Valley University Contemporary Dance Ensemble's Monica Campbell, dancer Emric Thompson and choreographer Alyssa Davis. In a spoken word-meets-dance-meets-social justice mashup, one of the pieces they'll perform in their March 30 Spring Concert is based on "This Is My Voice," by poet Shane Koyczan:
