Solar Power Hour with HEAL Utah on net-metering negotiations, Amy and Matt Werling on solar farming in Sanpete County, and Alan Naumann of Rocky Mountain Renewable Energy Co. on solar's job creation power in rural Utah

Hosted by Lara Jones and Nick Burns, tonight's show focused on solar power -- from net-metering to solar farming. Guests included:

  • Michael Shea, senior policy associate at HEAL Utah, which champions clean air and clean energy. The nonprofit has released a detailed study to convince the Public Service Commission (PSC—the state body which oversees Rocky Mountain Power) about the merits of rooftop solar. Click here to read it. Then get ready to share your thoughts with the PSC at a public hearing from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, August 9.
  • Amy and Matt Werling, who bought land in Sanpete County to build a solar farm. They went before the Sanpete County Commission last week and received a conditional use permit for their approximately 17-acre site just north of Fairview.
  • Alan Naumann, Rocky Mountain Renewable Energy Co., who is helping the Werlings, studying how many jobs the solar industry can create in rural Utah, and in general considers himself solar energy's biggest cheerleader in the Beehive State. Naumann also runs the Facebook Group GreenNewsUtah.com.
