Choices in Taking Shelter, ACLU Utah, Department of Work Force Services, Take Shelter Coalition

On tonight's Changing the Narrative: exploring homlessness, dignity and people taking shelter into their own hands.

Nate McDonald, Assistant Director, Utah Department of Workforce Services on the current model of homeless services and the plan for emergency shelter during cold temperatures. McDonald urged listeners that would like to help with the homelessness crisis to participate with Point in Time, an annual physical count to assess the amount of people experiencing homelessness. The Take Shelter Coalition's KC Fralick and Crystal Yazzie talked about the reasons behind Operation Take Shelter, a direct action that took place at Washington Square (Salt Lake City County Building) 

Aja Washington shared her experience as a social worker who does outreach with Utah's homeless population.

Jason Groth of the ACLU Utah talked about the constitutional concerns about tents as shelter and shared court cases on the subject around the country. Groth also talked about his work as a legal observer.
