Earlier today, Gov. Spencer Cox declared 2024 the Year of the No-Kill Shelter, pressing to make Utah the largest no-kill animal shelter state in the west, if not the nation. RadioACTive digs into the issue with Temma Martin of —which keeps the National Data Base— and Briana of Angel Paws Veterinary Services.

February is spay and neuter awareness month. Temma Martin shares the following tips to find low-cost spay/neuter services:

  • Call around, but don't give up. The price range could be $100 to $1,000!

  • Call as soon as possible to get an appointment. There could be a wait of weeks or months. There are too many puppies and kittens now, when it's usually the slow season during the winter.

  • Call your local shelter for recommendations.
