On the RadioActive Report (begins at 06:50):

Volunteer opportunities:
  • Utah Beer Festival: Saturday, Aug. 27. Presented by Salt Lake City Weekly, the festival is a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Utah. Volunteers are still needed for the 7th annual Utah Beer Festival, please visit www.utahhumane.org/beerfest to apply to volunteer!

  • Volunteer at the English Skills Learning Center (4444 S. 700 East, SLC). You can help immigrants and refugees in your community learn English by volunteering as a teacher with the English Skills Learning Center. You don't need to be an experienced teacher or speak a foreign language! Training is provided! Training begins Aug. 24. Please call 801-328-5608 or visit our website eslcenter.org for more information.

  • Lower Little Cottonwood Climbing Access Trail Work: Aug. 27 at 8 a.m. The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance is working with the Access Fund and the Forest Service on the implementation of a new hiking and climbing trail system in lower Little Cottonwood Canyon. This is the largest climbing access trail project on Forest Service property in the nation and we need YOUR help. For the next 3.5 months the Access Fund Conservation Team will be working on climbing infrastructure needs throughout lower LCC. They need YOUR help to build staging areas, stabilize approach trails to signature climbs like Mexican Crack as well as maintain the trails to the world class boulders in the area. Trail work days will be happening every weekend from now through November. You can register for a trail day and learn more about the project at http://www.saltlakeclimbers.org/adopt-a-crag/

  • VOTERISE and KRCL Voter Registration Training: Monday, Aug. 22, 7-8 p.m. at KRCL (1971 W. North Temple, SLC). KRCL and VOTERISE will be holding a training session. Everyone is welcomed, but there are two requirements:

    • You must be willing to openly interact and approach people in a public setting

    • You MUST be NON-partisan when you participate.

That's it! Please let me know if you plan on attending, so we can get a rough estimate of numbers at ericn@krcl.org.
