Book Release Party & Comic Jam with author/artist Angie Sandberg

The Printed Garden is proud to collaborate with local author/artist Angla Sandberg on our very first Comic Jam! If you haven't attended a comic jam before, you're in for a treat. A comic jam is a spontaneous creative event at which a number of people collaborate on the creation (any combination of writing, drawing, inking, and/or coloring) of a comic book, working one after the other. In the jam, the first participant will draw either the first page or the first panel, and pass the page along to the second, who will produce the second page or panel, handing it along, in turn, to the third, who will pass it to the fourth, etc. until a number of completed pages are finished or the story has been brought to its conclusion. Participants can choose to take part in the writing process, draw, ink, color, or contribute however they feel they are best able to in order to bring the comic to life! Frequently, there simply is no script at all, and the panels are improvised as the creative process steams forward. Each participant will create his or her panel or panels based entirely on the preceding panels and story created up to that point. This Comic Jam will be facilitated by author/artist Angela Sanberg, who will also be apprearing to celebrate the release of her first Dash & Shanks mystery! Angie will talk about her own creative processes, the creation of the Dash & Shanks characters, and offer creative advice to aspiring cartoonists and zine creators. This event is free and open to the public, and will begin at 7:00 p.m. A good time is sure to be had by all!

Salt Lake City; A love Story 10 Year Anniversary

https://www.axs.com/events/543576/salt-lake-city-a-love-story-tickets?skin=stateroom In February 2014, Charles Ellsworth & Vincent Draper released their split LP “Salt Lake City: A Love Story” at The State Room in Downtown Salt Lake. The two emerging folk singers had teamed up with the goal to create something greater than the sum of their parts. The rules were simple: They could go minimal, but no skimping on the beauty. At the time, the release was well received. It got a little buzz in the local folk community, and since then, it’s grown to be something of a regional cult-classic. “Salt Lake City: A Love Story” was born of two relatively green songwriters, but their love of the city, respect for the community, and the serious dedication to each other’s craft is woven into each track. Never straying too far from its muse, the album dips into its vibrant community to round out the sound: Josaleigh Pollet, Genevieve Smith, and Sam Osimitz pepper their musical talents, while the tracks were charmingly engineered and mixed by Wes Johnson and mastered by the dearly missed late Ty Steadman. This record still proudly sits in the collection of aging millennial-hipsters not only in the American Southwest, but around the world. It stands as a testament and a time capsule to the vibrant folk scene in Salt Lake of the 2010s, and exists eternally as a love letter not only to lost romances and the heavy heartbreaks of youth described in the songs, but to the power of friendship and community that light even the darkest of nights and the coldest of winters. Backed by the indie rock masters The Culls and supported by Utah’s very own Josaleigh Pollett, Ellsworth & Draper will be returning to The State Room on July 14th for the 10 year anniversary party of the release of Salt Lake City: A Love Story.
