Released on April 1, 2003, Elephant is the fourth album by The White Stripes. It was nominated for Album of the Year and won for Best Alternative Music Album at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2004. Considered by many fans and critics to be The White Stripes best work and one of the best albums of the 2000's.

On Feb 2, 2011, The White Stripes announced thier break up in a statement on the group's website: "The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It's for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way."
