When the Velvet Underground recorded their debut, they were being managed by Andy Warhol (who also designed the album cover). Recorded in 1966 during Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia event tour. It was released in March 1967 by Verve Records.
It was a commercial failure upon release, the record has since become one of the most influential and critically acclaimed rock albums in history, appearing at number thirteen on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The late artist, Andy Warhol, who made his mark on the music scene as manager for The Velvet Underground, died on this day, Feb 22, in 1987.
