Joe Strummer died on this day in 2002. Best known as co-founder and frontman for The Clash. After leaving The Clash in 1986, Joe Strummer continued to make music as a solo artist, and with his band The Mescaleros until his death in 2002.

Released on October 21, 2003, Streetcore is the third and final album by Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros.

The album wasn't completed before Strummer's death, and many of the vocal performances are first takes. Two of the songs were recorded with famed producer Rick Rubin. The first being a cover of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song', the other, 'Long Shadow', was originally written by Strummer for Johnny Cash.
