Troubleshooting:
If you have trouble hearing our on-line broadcast, here are some things to try/check:
Check your links and
update your bookmarks. KRCL has recently--
July 26, 2006-- changed the urls to the
audio streams.
Determine if your
system can play MP3 files and/or Ogg files.
If your media player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) can play MP3 and/or Ogg files you can enter the URL to our direct audio stream. For example, in Windows Media Player you go to the File Menu and select Open URL. Then you'd enter the appropriate URL from above (For example, for the MP3 stream enter: http://stream.krcl.org/krcl-high
If your media play cannot play MP3 and/or Ogg files you can download a player than can. For the Windows platform a lot of folks use the free Winamp player. Their website is here: http://www.winamp.com/ (Be sure to get the WinAmp Full, NOT Lite - its still free!)
FAQs:
Why
did you change the stream?
To solve some reliability issues in our
stream, we needed to upgrade to Icecast
2.0 (our streaming software.) This software
is now supporting the Ogg Vorbis compression
standard.
What
is Ogg Vorbis?
Ogg Vorbis is a new audio compression format.
It is roughly comparable to other formats
used to store and play digital music, such
as MP3, VQF, AAC, and other digital audio
formats. It is different from these other
formats because it is completely free, open,
and unpatented
Does
Ogg Vorbis sound better than MP3?
Yes, especially in the low bandwidth stream.
Naturally, we invite you to judge this for
yourself.
What
Software do I need to listen?
There are many options for Windows, Mac
and Linux users. Most popular audio players
support Ogg Vorbis, including WinAmp
(version 2.x & 5.x only), RealOne
Player, Zinf,
and Whamb
(for Mac).
Windows Media Player and ITunes do NOT support
Ogg out of the box, but there are plug-ins
available so that they will. Click
here for info on an ITunes plug in.
Why doesn't it work?
If you are using I-Tunes or Windows Media
Player, you will need to use the mp3 stream
or install the Ogg Vorbis plug in. If you
have WinAmp, be sure you have version 5.x.
If
the player doesn't open when you click on
the link above, try copying URL and open
the location directly from your player.
