KRCL Development Director

Job Description

Job Status: Full time
Reports to: General Manager

KRCL 90.9, a 30 year old community radio station in Utah, is seeking a Development Director. This dynamic person will work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and board in a team environment.

Position Concept: The Development Director is charged with the responsibility of securing the station's financial budget. This dynamic person will oversee all aspects of development and fundraising, participate in community awareness building and grants writing. In tandem with the General Manager, the Development Director will create, plan, direct and implement a comprehensive development program that generates revenue and support for the radio station on an ongoing basis. This includes contributions from individuals, foundations, businesses, national and tax-based sources among others. The funding program will include but is not limited to: Small and major donor gifts, annual giving, donor tracking, planned giving, foundation grants.

Principal Responsibilities

•  With assistance from the General Manager and KRCL staff, create a diversified fundraising plan

•  Research or initiate research and data compilation on potential individuals and foundation donors identified by board members, staff, and volunteers by virtue of their gift history to similar organizations or activities.

•  Write and apply for grants for operations and special projects. Prepare grant reports and insure compliance with grant guidelines

•  Maintain development calendar in shared folder

•  Cultivate and steward funding sources

•  Keep current on fund raising programs, practices, and procedures being used in the not-for-profit sector and inform board, volunteers, and other leaders of matters that would benefit and interest them in their work on behalf of KRCL.

•  Work with Membership Manager to develop and track membership data, to include major donor prospects.

•  Develop, market and implement a planned giving program and an endowment

•  Work with all development staff to organize and execute On-Air Pledge Drive. This is a major responsibility that requires autonomous, tenacious and savvy abilities.

•  In concert with the appropriate committees, prepare or initiate content and materials for approved fund raising programs, including proposals to donors and donor prospects, gift recognition and acknowledgment materials, appeal letter, annual report etc.

•  Participate in the creation and implementation of special events as they are approved by the events committee.

•  Document all fundraising activities and provide monthly comprehensive activity reports to the General Manager and Board of Directors

•  Work with General Manager to analyze fund raising programs and plan future activities.


Ideal Candidate Requirements:

A real go-getter, someone who thinks outside of the box
Bachelor's Degree
Three- five years of successful experience in public broadcasting and/or non-profit fund raising
Dedicated to community building
Computer Literate and familiar with databases
Excellent writing and speaking skills
Demonstrated success in working as a team member and developing effective working relationships with staff, board, volunteers and donors.
Sense of humor!
A team player for a small, energetic and progressive organization is critical. Candidate must be able to brainstorm, provide and take feedback etc.
