Arts and culture events, with KRCL's Haley Wightman:

  • The Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival runs from Friday, July 29 through Sunday, August 7. The festival takes place at the old DI building on Highland (2234 Highland Dr.) next to Sugarmont Plaza, Westminster’s Jewett Center for performing arts (1250 E. 1700 South) and the Sprague Library (2131 S. 1100 East).

  • Utah Tap Fest is Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30. Two days of tap workshops for all levels. The final performance is Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Sugarspace Warehouse (132 S. 800 West, Salt Lake City).

  • Tosho Con is Friday and Saturday from 3-9 p.m. at the Viridian Event Center (8030 S. 1825 West, West Jordan). An anime convention for teens ages 12-19 run by teens.

  • Utah Asia Pacific Island Heritage month starts with a kickoff celebration at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 at the Sorenson Unity Center (1383 S. 900 West). There will be food, music, cultural booths and a screening of the film Whale Rider.

  • The World Stage Concert Series is going on throughout August at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center (1355 W. 3100 South, West Valley City). Monday, August 1 features performers from Mongolia, France, Bolivia and Bulgaria. The show starts at 7.

  • Throughout the month of July, you can reduce your Salt Lake Public Library fines by reading in the library. Check in with a librarian at any SLCPL branch and for every 10 minutes you read at the library your fines are reduced by $1 http://www.slcpl.lib.ut.us/events/view/5585/
