Comprised of singer/guitarist Ira Kaplan and his wife, drummer/vocalist Georgia Hubley, the New Jersey based band Yo La Tengo (Spanish for the outfielder's cry of "I've got it!") are one of indie rock's most respected bands.

Released on April 22, 1997, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is the bands eigth album. Three singles, "Autumn Sweater", "Sugarcube", and the Beach Boys cover "Little Honda", were released from the album helping it to reach #19 on the billboard Heatseekers chart. Fans and music critics regard it as the band's best work. In 2010, Rolling Stone placed it at #86 on its list of the '100 Best Albums of the Nineties'.

The album's title comes from a line in a film: "I think it's a nice, evocative title" said Ira Kaplan. "It seems to mean a lot but it doesn't really mean anything. It comes from a movie, but I'm not telling what movie. You'll have to see it one day and say, 'Eureka!"
